Happy Monday!

Claire has been busy

Love this print…very vibrant

Hello and Happy Bank Holiday everyone. I thought I would post on a Monday for a change. How are you all? I hope you have had a lovely bank holiday weekend. It’s been a mixed bag of weather but we have managed to get out and about over the weekend. Rhod & I went to Clyne Gardens. We always love it there. It’s a great place to just sit and be, soak up the fresh air and listen to the breeze rustling through the trees. There was lots of colour from the rhododendrons and azaleas even after that mad storm we had in the week. How crazy was that storm! I’ve put some photos of the Japanese Bridge and waterfall at Clyne.

I have been busy making a quilt for an exhibition that Swansea Quilters are holding in August. I needed to get it done for the beginning of this week as the lovely Julia from Swansea Quilters is going to long-arm quilt it for me. I love seeing the quilt emerge as I sew the blocks together and put on the borders. I bought myself a gorgeous range of fabrics from the Festival of Quilts a few years back and didn’t know what to do with them. I knew I wanted to do a quilt but couldn’t make up my mind about a style. I then found this pattern in a magazine and knew it would make the prints pop. I love it!

I think the ginger jar blocks showcase the lovely prints

This will hopefully be a lap quilt…..mind you I might change my mind and put it on the wall

Claire has been busy making some tote bags for Adelante. Naomi was looking for a tropical feel to put in the window. I think Claire has delivered. I love the colours and patterns in her patchwork and the lining. They look very summery.

I promised to put on some pictures of the crochet workshop which took place when I was away. Everyone had a lovely time and no-one went without completing a granny square….even the complete beginners. It was so popular that we will be doing another one in June. I have put the details below.

This is our next workshop

What sort of week have you all got? Claire is busy with her patchwork. I will be working on some commissions. Whatever you are doing have a great week. See you on Friday x Suzanne

Happy Friday!

A treasure from The Festival of Quilts.

One of the winners…isn’t it amazing! This is my favourite.

Hello Claire & I were away at The Festival of Quilts last week which is held every year in the NEC. We always stay for a few days and is our way of chilling and decompressing. We are always in awe of the skill of the quilters who exhibit and come away feeling inspired. Mind you we always come away with lots of fabric and a lighter bank balance as there is lots of amazing shopping as well! We can’t wait for next year already!

Now that we are back we are gearing up for The Heart of the Valley Show at Pontardawe on Saturday 2nd September. This is the first time that we have had a stand at this show and can’t wait to be part of it as there is so much going on throughout the day. It is being held at Pontardawe Sports & Recreation Ground and starts at 10am. Have a look at their website theheartofthevalleyshow.com for more information or follow them on Facebook. We are making lots of rice & knot bags in beautiful Japanese fabrics and some new stock. More information on these to come at the end of the month when we will be launching our first newsletter. Make sure you subscribe on our website Sister Makes to ensure you receive a copy. Have a lovely week with some sunshine fingers crossed x Suzanne

Quilting & patchwork doesn’t have to be only quilts.

Look at the beautiful choice of fabrics that have gone together to make this patchwork kimono dressing gown. I know I’m biased with my love of Japanese fabrics but it is gorgeous!

Happy Friday!

Can you believe it’s Friday already! School holidays are under way and yes it’s still raining. Mind you I give thanks that we do not have the heat and wildfires in Europe & America. If you are doing a staycation there are so many lovely places to visit in the UK including our very own Swansea and The Gower. The Gower Show is on Sunday 6th August from 9-5 and is a brilliant day out for all the family. Claire and I are off to The Festival of Quilts held in the NEC. It is an amazing show full of quilts from vintage to contemporary, mini to giant. They are a feast for the eye. As a lot of you might know we love quilting and for me it is a form of art.

My first big quilt…it brings me so much joy

What a lovely photo from BBC News

Asmaa was amazing throughout but all the contestants were great…will miss my Wednesday night fix

Did anyone watch the Great British Sewing Bee Final on Wednesday night? It was great. Did you think the right person won? Loved them all but I thought that Asmaa was a worthy winner. Her dress at the end was pure genius. I already can’t wait for the next series. Have a lovely weekend and I will catch up with you next Friday.

Our latest commission.

Love the colours that the lovely Carole chose.

Quilts Galore

Suzanne and I are back from a visit to the Festival of Quilts.

We had a fantastic time. So many stunning quilts - feeling very inspired!

And don’t get me started on the fabric! So much choice! A fair bit was purchased - some for work and some for personal use - all of it beautiful!

There may also have been quite a few cocktails and lots of yummy food….
